The Easiest Way To Start Your Own Website
You guys, a year ago I knew NOTHING about starting a website.
I wanted to blog and be free to share the things I was learning, but had no idea how to do that.
To top it off, I was challenging myself to follow Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University’s principles, and wanted to use a cash-only operation to run my blogging world.
And I had no cash.
Cue my fun money and birthday money and I was about to get started.
For less than $60, I had my entire website up and running, INCLUDING my domain name AND email.
For the year. All the praise hands.
It was too good to be true, but it was true.
Now, I am not techie by nature, so I was definitely overwhelmed at the thought of building my website, but between Google searches and a few trial and error glitches, I had my website up and running in less than a week, complete with interruptions, community events, kids appointments and all the things.
I was so proud of myself.
Siteground has a chat box where you can literally type in your questions and work on other things while tech support helps you.
The step-by-step set up as you log in literally guides you through the entire process.
WordPress can be downloaded for FREE to your website, and WordPress also offers a TON of free options of templates to get you started, with so many different styles and types to choose from.
You just pick a style and literally fill in the blanks.
Making it your own is super easy too, if you find out you do want to customize something as well.
It is just that easy.
If you are ready to start your blogging adventure today, just follow these super easy steps.
I mean, who wouldn’t want to start picking out your very own website name?! It’s like choosing a name for your baby, with zero responsibility unless you want it. Like auntie privileges, only better.
Click the link here, and start at siteground.com. It is easy to read, easy to follow, and easy to see that they know what they’re doing.
Just click the “Get Started“ button to literally, get started.
If you just want to get your feet wet and see where your adventure will take you, you can just pick the simplest and cheapest plan. You do have to pay for it all for one year upfront, but it will still come under around 60 bucks after it’s all said and done.
Choosing your domain is the most fun and the most exciting to me. Here they will tell you if the domain is available, and you can search for yourself in another browser before you try it as well. You can play with names, make them fun, dream a little bit and see where it takes you. Please remember not to take yourself too seriously! Adventures are supposed to be fun, and nothing in the online space is ever really permanent.
Once you find the domain name that you want to start with, and you find out it’s available, you just click the next button to fill in all your basic information.
Look over your information one more time, and fill in all your personal details and your payment information. Before you know it, you have access to siteground.com, and you can begin designing your website.
Starting my first website was definitely one of the scariest things I have done in my life. It was very unknown, and I felt very alone, and even though I was excited to do the thing, it was very hard to gather my courage to get ready to put myself in the online space.
I used the super technical tool of Google to search a lot of my questions to get my website to where I needed to be in order to watch it. I would literally type in the Google search bar, “beautiful free WordPress fonts” and go from there.
The greatest compliment I ever received on my website was when my teenage daughter shared my launch on her Facebook page. In that post, I saw how she saw me, and I saw what she saw in me.
Once I saw her loving words and encouragement, I knew it was so much more than doing the thing. It’s about being brave in the process, and not being afraid to try something new. It’s about paving the way for our children, and showing our daughters how to find their place in this crazy, wide, wide world.
So if you are struggling to make the decision to start a blogging website that you feel like you are supposed to do, remember the little eyes that are watching you, and if you can’t do it for the sake of yourself, do it for the sake of being brave for them.
